1. Overview

LEOSA Locations ("we," "us," or "our") operates leosalocations.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the Site you agree to the practices described here.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

First and last name
Law enforcement agency name and, for active officers, official agency email address
State of employment
Password (stored as a secure hash; we never see your plaintext password)
Location submissions, check-ins, and comments you post on the Site

Information collected automatically

Pages visited and actions taken on the Site (via Vercel Analytics)
Browser type, device type, and approximate geographic region
IP address and referrer URL
Cookies set by our authentication provider and advertising partners

We also keep our own log of how signed-in members use the Site, such as which pages and features they open, and we use it only to improve the service.

2A. Credential Images (Retired Officers)

Active officers are never asked for credential images. Retired officers verify with images, which are handled as follows.

What we collect: your agency-issued retired photo ID, your firearms qualification record, and a required live selfie captured in your browser at the time you apply.
Who can view them: only site administrators and reviewers, for the purpose of reviewing your application. Every view is logged.
How long we keep them: for as long as the qualification they support is valid, which is up to 15 months for an approved member (the verification period plus a 90 day grace window). Images are deleted 30 days after a rejection and 90 days after an incomplete upload.
Sharing: credential images are never shared with other members, advertisers, or any third party.
Encryption: each image is encrypted with its own key, and that key is kept outside the systems that hold the image. Deleting the key destroys the image beyond recovery immediately, without waiting for the storage provider's own deletion schedule.

To create and manage your account
To send transactional emails (account confirmation, approval notifications, password resets)
To attribute location submissions and check-ins to your agency (never your personal name) within the Site
To improve the Site through aggregate analytics
To display advertisements through Google AdSense

4. Information Shared with Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the following service providers as necessary to operate the Site:

Supabase: database and authentication hosting
Vercel: web hosting and analytics
Mapbox: mapping and geocoding services
Resend: transactional email delivery
Google AdSense: advertising. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You may opt out at google.com/settings/ads.

5. Cookies

We use cookies to maintain your login session and to enable advertising functionality. By using the Site you consent to the use of cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may prevent you from logging in.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If your account is rejected or deleted, your personal information is removed from our systems. Location submissions and check-ins are retained to maintain the integrity of the database and may persist after account deletion in anonymized form.

7. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords, and row-level database access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at leosalocations@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Children's Privacy

This Site is intended solely for active and retired law enforcement officers who are adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 years of age.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
